Sample Nature Figures in Jmol

Notes on differences between the 2D and 3D renderings

Figure 2a back to figure
Lack of transparency: Transparency of the lower parts of the beta sheet were intentionally omitted. Transparent structures are easy to render in Jmol but probably unnecessary here due to the ability to rotate the structure.

Figure 2b back to figure
Axis line and planes of transparent colors omitted: These could be rendered with additional time.

Figure 2c back to figure
Additional layers: The initial view is the same as the 2D figure. However additional layers of beta strands were added to the 3D figure to convey the tight packing described by the authors in other contexts.

Figure 2d back to figure
(1) Placement of water: Some water molecules are missing, and some are "extra" here. This is unrelated to Jmol's capabilities and could be rendered correctly with additional time or coordinate file from authors.
(2) Missing electron density map: This could be rendered with additional time.

Figure 2e back to figure
(1) One structure is shown instead of two (intentional): For the purposes of this demo, only one of the two is shown.
(2) Hydrogen bonds off as default (intentional): Checkboxes control the display.
